Can You Put PVC Tablecloth In Washing Machine? Why Shouldn’t You Do So?

The  PVC tablecloth can be significantly damaged if you put it in a washing machine. Also, your washing machine can get broken too. So, you cannot put it in a washing machine.

Below, I will share the reasons why you should avoid putting a PVC tablecloth in a washing machine.

Low Heat Resistance

PVC, or polyvinyl chloride, has very poor stability against high temperatures. Usually, a PVC tablecloth starts to change shape around 60°C.  However, to get rid of harmful bacteria, you need to wash the tablecloth at a minimum of 65°C.

Also, in a washing machine, high heat is generated during the washing and spinning. In most cases, the highest setting for washing machine temperature is 90-95°C. Therefore, your PVC tablecloth can melt if you try to wash it in the machine.

Damaging Measures

If you try to wash the PVC tablecloth in the washing machine, it will not only destroy that cover but also damage your machine. In the machine, while spinning, the tablecloth can melt and attach to the internal components of the machine.

Chemical Reactions

In the washing machine, usually, some harsh detergents are used. These cleaning agents can react with the PVC tablecloth. As a result, the tablecloth will be discolored or torn down. In the worst case, this reaction can produce toxic chemicals.

Bad Odor

The PVC tablecloth contains chlorine. If you put this tablecloth in a washing machine, it will release the irritating odor of chlorine in that machine. Also, this odor is hard to get rid of. So, when you put some other clothes in the washing machine, they would also smell like chlorine.

How Can I Clean A PVC Tablecloth?

A PVC tablecloth is 100% polymer made. So you can easily remove any stain from it. Below, I have shared the step-wise process to clean it.

  • Choosing the Right Place: Choose a spacious and clean place to lay your tablecloth. Make sure you have enough space to move freely.
  • Remove Dust and Debris: Before laying out the table cover, take it outside. Then, gently shake it to remove any dust and debris.
  • Cleaning Solution: You can either buy a cleaning solution or make one. To make the solution, you need to mix a mild dishwashing or detergent with warm water.
  • Removing Stains: Now, take a soft cloth piece or soft sponge. Then, dip it into that cleaning solution and gently wipe the tablecloth’s surface.

If it has any food stains, use light pressure to wipe it out. To get rid of grease and ink stains, you need isopropyl alcohol. However, never use any harsh cloth, as it can scratch the surface.

  • Rinse The Solution: After removing all stains, you need to rinse them with water. Make sure there is no leftover soap.
  • Dry The Tablecloth: Now, hang the tablecloth in an open but shadowy area. Never expose it to direct sunlight, as it can melt or wrap the PVC material.
